The main duties and responsibilities of the post include (but are not limited to) the following: operating, managing ward rounds and unwell in patients, outpatient clinics and endoscopy.
There is an on-call commitment. The post holder will be expected to be available to give appropriate assistance in the ED Department, depending on the level of referrals/activity. The department has one registrar covering referrals and one registrar predominantly responsibly for the CEPOD theatres from .

They are supported by 5 FY1 doctors and 1 CT doctor. The team is led by 10 consultant surgeons. Trainees and fellows participate in an equal rota with identical training opportunities and out of hours work. Duties include: elective and emergency surgery; dedicated day surgery lists; on-call care of surgical patients; daily ward care of elective and emergency in patients and outpatient clinics. The Hospital is a University Teaching Hospital with formal affilitation with the Medical School. Fellows are expected to take part in undergraduate education and research projects.
