An exciting opportunity has risen for a dynamic, self-motivated Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, to work on the Acute Medical Unit.

AMU is a fast paced unit which provides first class care for patients with various medical conditions at York Hospital, within York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will join a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team providing high quality expert services.

We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated and enthusiastic individual with the ability to enable and empower their team. Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this role, with patient safety and patient experience underpinning all aspects of the unit running efficiently and effectively.


Responsibilities


You will be responsible for supporting the Band 7, and to provide management support for the Acute Medical Unit, which entails managing the Nursing team. This includes, but not limited to:

  • Allocation of staff to teams, and ensuring they are working within their level of competence
  • Working alongside Doctors, to ensure patients receive appropriate care
  • Liaising with the operational team, to ensure timely transfer of patients out of the unit to appropriate ward areas
  • Taking charge in challenging circumstances within the unit and ensuring that support is given to junior colleagues at all times
  • Assisting the Band 7 to ensure appraisals, mandatory training and competency assessments for all nursing staff are kept up to date

Overall, the focus of this role is to ensure the unit is safe and functional at all times.
