Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly, motivated housekeeping supervisor to join our fantastic housekeeping department.
The housekeeping supervisor will be responsible for maintaining the high cleaning standards of our wards and departments. You will allocate housekeepers assistants to various wards & department areas on a daily basis to ensure that the hospital is clean, safe and provides a welcoming environment to all the Trust’s patients, visitors and staff. You will organize the rosters to ensure that appropriate cover is provided for all shifts and areas. The housekeeping supervisor will participate in the
rostering of staff and must ensure best use of department’s financial resources. You will assist the housekeeping manager in the provision of other services within the hotel services department and to assist with the recruitment, training and development of staff.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a housekeeping supervisor to work within a strong team. Provide guidance and support to the housekeeping staff. You will be required to provide a KEY service within the hospital for both staff and patients.
Maybe required to work cross site.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To carry out cleaning and efficacy audits as per the timed guidance as appropriate to each functional risk score
- Assist with the day-to day allocation of staff to ensure that all areas of the housekeeping team responsibility are covered In the event of staff shortages, re-allocate staff to give cover, and request staff from bank
- Maintain records of staff hours, for annual leave, sickness, and absence.
- Working within Budgeted Hours to achieve required standards.
- Assist with the ordering of cleaning stores and equipment, to ensure that adequate supplies are maintained
- Attend meetings as and when required take part in the annual PLACE assessment audits using an iPad to register the outcomes and comments.
- Issue cleaning materials and equipment to housekeeping staff
- Requisitions to estates for repairs and maintenance
- Respond to telephone and bleep requests
- Carry out ‘on the job’ training for all new staff, and ensure that existing staff are re-trained in any new systems.
- Attend all mandatory and upto date training
- Assist with prospective staff interviews.
- Counselling of staff (e.g. personal problems, sickness levels, absence)
- Carry out staff appraisals
- Good computer skills to assist with office administration
- Down-load information for assistant hotel services manager to analyse
- Organise any remedial action required to address shortfalls in service.
- Keep up to date with new cleaning technology, that will improve working practise, and assist with implementation of new systems
- Deal with spillages of body fluids, chemicals etc in accordance with Trust policy as and when required (frequent)
- Deal with floods throughout the Trust, as and when required (frequent); involves the use heavy mechanical equipment.
- Organise monthly clean of all carpets throughout the hospital on a frequent basis
- Fire – is the fire backup team co-ordinator; attends fire alarm situations internally/externally on hospital site. Responsible for the recording of information of backup team attendees.
- To maintain the high standards of the department by contributing towards individual and team objectives
- Assist with department mop management and on-site washing facilities
- Support Housekeeping Manager where required.

- Knowledge of the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021 and how they are monitored
- Competent in the use of Microsoft computer software.
- Health & Safety at work Awareness of NHS cleaning standards
Desirable criteria
- Formal qualification in cleaning services i.e BICs or equivalent
