The successful person in post will join the experienced, friendly, and friendly Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team.




Patient/client care

1. To assess, develop and implement highly specialist speech and language therapy treatments. To make appropriate clinical decisions following assessments, including differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment. To develop specialist care plans based in best practice and expert knowledge.

2. To use clinical skills to generate written reports reflecting specialist knowledge.

3. To provide appropriate specialist intervention and evaluate outcomes. To use skills and knowledge to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management for complex clinical issues.

4. To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients with upper airway disorders including respiratory physiotherapists and the adult and paediatric respiratory teams. To provide specialist advice in relation to the relevant care group.

5. To work collaboratively and liaise with a wide range of professions across a variety of locations and agencies.

6. To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.

7. To maintain intense concentration in all aspects of patient management for prolonged periods.


Policy/service development/implementation

1. To take delegated lead on the implementation of team objectives or projects in liaison with peers.

2. To develop care protocols for specific clinical issues.

3. To advise line manager on issues of service delivery, including shortfall, service pressures etc.

4. To assume delegated tasks as requested by line manager, including participation in working groups and policy development groups.

5. To develop care protocols/packages relating to specialist area in liaison with Service Manager to improve patient care.

To work within infection control and health and safety guidelines in order to deal appropriately with unpleasant conditions related to client contact as they arise: for example exposure to body fluids, infectious conditions etc. encountered on a regular basis.

Service Manager - Adult SaLT

The post holder will be the clinical lead, highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist in upper airway disorders, working to develop and deliver a service model and pathway which demonstrates evidenced based, effective, and efficient clinical care for this caseload. The postholder will work with the Special Airways MDT, ENT team, and the SLT team to deliver and develop this service.


The post holder will:

  • Take a clinical lead role in service developments in this area and take responsibility for service wide developments as appropriate.
