Health Care Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Start Date: September 2024

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

Contract: Full Time

GSL Education are seeking compassionate and skilled Health Care Assistants to join our dedicated team and contribute to the well-being of children and young people with additional needs, in York.

Ideal applicants should have knowledge of additional needs and linked behaviours, such as Autism, Learning Difficulties, ADHD and GDD. Being able to communicate well with school leaders, parents and carers is essential.

This role will be based in a School, predominantly supporting secondary aged pupils with additional needs. Coming from a Health Care Assistant background means you will have the hands-on experience and knowledge of different special educational need and medical needs. All of these skills are transferrable to working in a school environment.


Health Care Assistant Requirements


  • NVQ Healthcare or an equivalent qualification, along with at least 6 months experience in a Health Care setting.
  • Understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and experience working with learning needs such as Autism, ADHD and SEMH.
  • Have an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for a new one.
  • The Right to Work in the UK.
  • Be able to provide 2 references that cover the last 2 years of employment, relevant to working in education or health care.


Health Care Assistant Responsibilities


  • Providing personal care and assistance to students with medical and physical needs.
  • Deliver high quality care whilst ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for children.
  • Working in partnership with the SENCO to work towards achieving EHCP outcomes.
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals to create comprehensive care plans.
  • Maintaining regular communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on student progress, and involving them in decision-making processes.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and develop individualised support plans.
