We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Advisor to join our client's Corporate Health and Safety Unit at Belfast City Council. Reporting to the Assistant Corporate Health and Safety Managers, you will contribute to the development, delivery, and review of the corporate health and safety strategy. This role aims to achieve the highest standards in health and safety and ensure compliance with statutory and best practice obligations.


Your Duties:

  • Provide professional technical advice, guidance, training, and support on health and safety legislation for council employees and external partners.
  • Conduct health and safety assessments, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, legislation, and best practices.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate health and safety training courses and communications.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Prepare evidence and reports for legal proceedings and act as a witness when required.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all health and safety activities and ensure data accuracy.
  • Engage proactively with staff, management, trade unions, external partners, and statutory agencies to promote a positive health and safety culture.
  • Collate and analyse data for health and safety performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Stay updated on professional, technical, and legislative developments within health and safety.
  • Participate in corporate working teams and cross-departmental projects.
  • Assist with managing resources and contracts to support the corporate health and safety strategy.

Your Profile:



Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications: A third-level qualification in a relevant subject such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Driving Licence: A full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland, and access to a car for official business, or an alternative means of meeting the travel requirements of the post.

At least one year of relevant experience in a health and safety role, including:

  • Providing advice on health and safety legislation.
  • Conducting health and safety inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
  • Preparing and delivering health and safety training courses.

Your Benefits:

  • £17.53 per hour.
  • Pensions Contribution.

  • Full time, Temporary.
  • 9AM-5PM, Monday-Friday.
