Band 5 Senior Assistant Psychologist - Community Mental Health Psychological Therapies (CMHPT) Central Network

We are looking for an innovative and dynamic Assistant Psychologist, who is currently employed within Berkshire Healthcare, with skills and experience of direct clinical work, clinical administration and audit.

The postholder will become an integral member of the Community Mental Health Psychological Therapies (CMHPT) Central Network team. The Central Network is a recent service development designed to enhance and improve equitable and efficient access to evidence-based psychological therapies for people with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) across all six of Berkshire Healthcare’s adult community Mental Health Services (MHS).

The role will involve offering support to the Central Network team to enhance the psychological care of adult mental health service users, by contributing to the work of psychological therapists and other professionals in adult community mental health services. The postholder will undertake administrative, audit and service evaluation tasks as directed and deliver reports and presentations associated with any such undertakings as required.

This role is fixed term until the end of March 2025 for 37.5 hours per week. You will be based in Upton Hospital, Slough, with expectation to travel across sites within Berkshire.

  • To collaborate with service users and their families/carers as appropriate to develop individual and achievable goals and to enable service users to work towards recovery.
  • To work as part of the CMHPT central network by undertaking clinical aspects of administrative processes, such as triage, allocation and case management.
  • To provide specific psychological interventions, in groups or to individuals, working under the supervision of a registered psychologist and adhering to the jointly developed intervention plan and/or supervisor’s directions.
  • To communicate sensitively and effectively with service users and carers to promote engagement, including those that are harder to reach.
  • The postholder may be working with patients with moderate levels of risk and moderate levels of distress and will be expected to manage these in discussion/collaboration with supervisor or other colleagues to ensure these are appropriately and safely managed.
  • To provide information to other team members and multi-agency colleagues to support the particular needs of the service users and to ensure any risks are appropriately managed.
  • To ensure services are delivered in a manner that is appropriate, relevant and respectful to all community members, recognising the diversity of ethnicity, culture, belief, privilege and capacity of family members.
