The ED Sister/ Charge nurse works with the Matron, other Senior Nurses and Consultants for the Emergency Department to deliver effective, high quality, safe patient centred care. She/he will lead and support the nursing workforce each day to ensure this. The Sister/Charge nurse will maintain oversight of the department and provide assurance that the department is performing safely and efficiently.
- To establish and maintain effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and relevant clinical areas to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
- Ensuring safety checks are completed
- Maintaining standards through audits
- Ensuring safe staffing of the emergency department
- Clinically assessing to help identify sick and deteriorating patients
- Ensuring sepsis targets are met
- Providing clinical support to staff on duty
- Maintaining oversight of all areas of the emergency department
- Ensure clear communication within the department and externally with patient flow
- Support with clinical emergencies
- Ensure patients have plans and facilitate flow
