About the role

As part of continued investment into brand building and an evolving an innovative communication strategy, McCain Foods have developed a greater focus on becoming FMCG leaders in digital and social communications within the B2C and B2B digital environment. To this end in 2024 McCain is bringing a greater degree of social media content creation and management in-house, alongside working with some of the best creative agencies in the UK to shape an FMCG powerhouse brand for the future.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for social across retail and foodservice channels, ensuring our in-house organic content works in harmony with agency or in-house produced brand and product campaigns
  • Plan, create, publish and track performance of social 'business as usual' content to be deployed across key social channels (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), to grow our organic audience and community engagement.
  • Foster a 1:1 connection with McCain Influencers & brand ambassadors to build strong relationships that showcase our brand to our key audiences in new and collaborative ways, including negotiating fair prices and ensuring advertising standards are adhered to.
  • Monitor the company's various social channels - proactively engaging with social media audiences to build brand love for McCain through initiatives like "surprise & delight" giveaways, re-sharing fan content, etc.
  • Leverage social listening tools and best practices to track, monitor and report on emerging issues & conversations across our pages, subjects trending with consumers, competitive activity, industry news, and any sensitive topics for McCain Foods. Analyse conversations to provide actionable consumer and creative insights to the business.
  • Support Digital Marketing team's initiatives beyond social media (examples: manage the relationship with prop placement agencies to feature our brands in media productions, upskilling internal teams on social platforms and trends, internal presentations, participation in Annual Planning etc.)
  • This role has the capacity to grow and evolve in the longer term, specifically related to the management of digital communication & e-commerce plans.

About you


The McCain Social Media Manager is a highly motivated, proactive and creative individual with a passion for creating engaged online communities, growing our brand's social SOV, and helping to make us famous for all the right reasons. As a member of the McCain GB Marketing team the Social and Media Manager is responsible for negotiating the connection between McCain and their audience - acting as the voice, tone and moderator of the McCain, Strong Roots and Food Service brands to build brand presence and trust through planning, creating and sharing socially native content that drives digital engagement, as well as enhancing community conversation.

You will have strong creative skills and judgement. By staying on the pulse of the latest conversations and trends in the FMCG and Food Service world they'll ensure that our planned and reactive social content feels fresh and on brand so that we can inspire and entertain our growing audience.

Strong communication skills are a must. As the voice of the brand, the successful candidate should be able to write engaging 'social first' copy; flexing across different brands and channels. They will also need to have great interpersonal and stakeholder management skills as they will be interacting with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. In this fast moving channel things change quickly and it's essential you can present a compelling narrative to bring our stakeholders on the journey with us.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of community management experience on key platforms including: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linked in & Tik Tok within a Corporate or agency Environment
  • Excellent social copy writing skills are a must, with an eye for typography and graphic design
  • Ability to work flexibly and take initiative in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration
  • Must be passionate about Digital Marketing & Social Media, and enthusiastic about learning new concepts and technologies
  • Proven Experience of working within FMCG marketing - desirable
Knowledge

  • Photography and videography skills, including editing techniques like transitions for content creation on platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok
  • Familiarity with social media management platforms such as Facebook Business Manager, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Social Studio etc
  • Presentation skills, from crafting a story in Powerpoint to delivering a presentation to an audience
  • Design skills or experience on how to use graphic design creation tools like Canva or Photoshop - desirable
  • Good knowledge of FMCG industry, especially food - desirable

Being in the office every single day is a thing of the past. Here at McCain, we champion hybrid working. This means we don't have a set expectation of exactly when you need to be in the office - however we would like to see you on a weekly basis as that's the best place for us to build and maintain our connections. Our head office (Customer Experience Centre) is on the outskirts of Scarborough - 1.5 hours away from Leeds City Centre, and about an hour from York.

We have lots of colleagues who travel to and from our Experience Centre (even if it is just for a good coffee!) and because hybrid really does mean hybrid at McCain, they get the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues when they're in the office, and balance that with working from home to ensure they get a good life-work balance.
