Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse. The successful candidate will be based in the Diabetes Education Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and work within an established multidisciplinary team of Diabetologists/Endocrinologists, diabetes specialist nurses and dietitians to provide specialist diabetes care to patients attending outpatient departments, as well as supporting colleagues providing inpatient care. The role will include taking a lead on an area of the service, nurturing, and supervising less experienced colleagues within the team.
Main duties of the jobTo provide an autonomous nursing service for patients with diabetes, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the speciality
To manage the nursing caseload for patients with diabetes, who have multiple and complex needs including complex Type 1 and 2 diabetes, diabetes technologies including continuous glucose monitoring and hybrid closed loop insulin pump therapy, ante-natal and transition within the outpatient diabetes service.
To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within diabetes.
To lead and innovate diabetes related nursing practice, both within the Trust and through local networks.
To contribute to the development of diabetes guidelines, protocols, and policies for the Trust
To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.
To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi-disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.
To work flexibly in response to service needs, to provide cover to all service areas when required.
