The Role

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team, they will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse, and will regularly work unsupervised. They will carry out assigned duties to maintain hygiene, order and safety within the ward environment.


Duties may vary with the type of ward/department and the degree of patient dependency.

What we'll need you to bring

  • SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring environment/role.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/agency team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • To actively participate in the Personal Development Plan process to fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development.

It would be great if you also have

  • Certificate in venepuncture
  • Previous phlebotomy experience within an acute hospital setting
  • Knowledge in anatomy and physiology
  • High awareness of infection control policies and procedures

Contract type

  • Permanent
  • Part Time
  • 10 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Phlebotomy within University Hospital Hairmyres.

The working pattern for this role is 5 hour days. The service is seven days which includes public holidays.
