The EWE Projects aim is to promote the psychological and social and emotional well-being of Children in Care. Youll be involved in direct work with Children and Young People in Care to support their social and emotional development and engagement with learning, through psychological assessment and interventions.
EWE project Assistant Educational Psychologist posts have provided excellent opportunities for colleagues wanting to apply for professional doctoral programmes in educational and clinical psychology.
It is a part-time post 25.9 hours per week typically Monday to Thursday, your base will be New Parks House, Pindar Road, Leicester LE3 9RN.
The post is fixed term until August 2026 and is funded through Leicester City Virtual School.
We will consider this vacancy on a secondment basis for Leicester City Council employees. If you wish to apply for this post on a secondment basis then please make your line manager aware before applying.
What youll be doing
As an Assistant Educational Psychologist with the EWE project your main role will involve delivering school based short term interventions for Children in Care - 1:1 and /or group work. You will be focusing on the development of psychological wellbeing, plus supporting key adults to understand the childrens needs. The work will take place in educational or community settings.
What youll need
As the successful applicant youll have an upper second class 2:1 or above honours degree in Psychology that makes them eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society. Youll have significant experience in working directly with vulnerable children, young people and with parents, for example: teaching, youth work, mental health support worker, residential childrens home, social work assistant or experience working as an Assistant Psychologist. In addition, youll have effective communication skills, both oral and written. Youll be required to analyse data and produce reports demonstrating EWE project outcomes.
Youll be able to demonstrate a significant knowledge of a wide range of psychological methods and perspectives which underpin the work of an applied psychologist and provide significant knowledge and experience of children and adolescent development including the needs of Children in Care.
Due to the nature of this post, youll be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service DBS check.
