Job responsibilities
- Chronic disease reviews
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Cytology
- Wound care
- Removal of Sutures
- ECGs
- Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
- Venepuncture
- Hypertension management
- Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Providing contraceptive advice/pill checks.
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nursing staff or GPs as appropriate
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Practice Nurse
to work with us at our friendly practice. We are looking for a candidate full of enthusiasm to join our friendy nursing team of Practice Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, Phlebotomists, Care-Coordinators and General Practice Assistants. The role will be varied and cover all aspects of Practice Nursing including chronic disease management, cytology and baby immunisations.
We offer a competitive rate of pay linked to qualifications and experience. Hours negotiable to suit the applicant and needs of the practice (part time).
Confidentiality, diplomacy, good people and IT skills, smart appearance and a good sense of humour are all essential requirements for this post.

Main duties of the job
- To assist with chronic disease management
- To undertake cervical screening and immunisations
- To provide a holistic nursing service to all patients attending the surgery
- To deliver a range of services to agreed practice guidelines/protocols
- To assess patients physical, psychological and social needs
- To deliver health promotion activities to the practice population e.g. travel health, sexual health and immunisation
- To manage minor trauma, acute and chronic wounds.
- To provide lifestyle advice and screening to aid in the prevention of possible future illnesses
