  • To provide high quality and timely coded clinical data, by following the national clinical coding rules and conventions. It is essential to ensure the data is accurate and complete to meet Trust deadlines, whilst supporting the allocation of Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs), Service Line reporting, Clinical Governance and to facilitate maximisation of the Trust income in line with Payment by Results (PbR).
  • Adhere to the rules and conventions of ICD-10 and OPCS and take responsibility for updating your own references manuals and classifications when changes have been issued.
  • To work within a Clinical Division, coding episodes of inpatient and day case activity direct from patient health records and other electronic applications.
  • To input coded information into the hospital PAS computer system, paying particular attention to accuracy, timeliness and confidentiality.
  • To understand the impact of coded data on the business aspects of the Trust and be able to communicate the complexities of your work to Clinical colleagues.
  • To organise and prioritise own workload.
  • To be continually aware of the day-to-day workload levels and be flexible to assist your colleagues in other specialities.
  • Liaise regularly with Divisional staff and other key stakeholders to ensure high quality coded clinical data.
  • To mentor and/or support all other clinical coding team members.
  • To work towards and pass the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ), and complete the Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course every three years.

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding procedures, ensuring accurate and efficient coding for healthcare services.

  • To provide high quality and timely coded clinical data, by following the national clinical coding rules and conventions. It is essential to ensure the data is accurate and complete to meet Trust deadlines, whilst supporting the allocation of Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs), Service Line reporting, Clinical Governance and to facilitate maximisation of the Trust income in line with Payment by Results (PbR).
  • To work with the clinical teams and other relevant personal to ensure coding accuracy and integrity are maintained at the highest level.
  • To mentor and/or support all other clinical coding team members.
