The Cancer CNS role is a key worker role. The LGI Cancer CNS addresses patients health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing. Using their skills and expertise in cancer care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients coordinates their care services and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their diagnosis. This leads to a more positive outcome for patients.

The LGI Cancer CNS Team are based within the Cancer and Planned on the main Acute Torbay hospital site in Torquay, The LGI Cancer CNS is part of the core service, and is part of the cancer support team for the trust. You will work primarily within LGI services and Oncology Cancer service. Working alongside consultants, diagnosing, inform the patients of their diagnosis, support and monitor the patient group throughout their cancer pathway.

The practitioner works collaboratively with others or independently to meet the needs of the patients and their families. It is expected they will also participate in the education and development of other staff members and assist with the development of clinical services and enhanced practice across the Trust.

  • The post holder will work as an important member of the Multidisciplinary Team within the Torbay and South Devon H&N Cancer MDT service
  • NHS Trust collaborating with a range of health care providers in the local community and across the regional Network
  • To provide expert advice and management for LGI Cancer patients promoting self-care for all patients in the Torbay and South Devon Health Authority including hospice patients
  • The post holder will utilize skills of clinical expertise, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff, providing advice, support and information from the time of diagnosis and throughout curative, palliative and end of life care
  • To work as a supportive and inspirational clinical leader within the integrated teams providing a high standard of profession specific expertise
  • Actively engaging in evidence-based practise
