Brief Description

An exciting opportunity to join Network Rail Occupational Health and Wellbeing Team as a Senior Occupational Health & Well-being Specialist on a permanent, full time opportunity. You will be incorporated within Technical Authority who define and discharge network accountabilities for policy, strategy and the control framework in safety and health. This role will play an integral part in elevating 'health' and the profile of health risk across the business and to set benchmarks from which the organisation will measure its success.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team who embed the use of health performance and data to enable insight that drives change toward a tangible reduction in costs associated with occupational health (RIDDOR), Industrial Disease, Sickness Absence and Premature ill health retirement. We expect health management to be informed by evidence-based data, education, training, industry leading standards and to be assured through a robust governance framework.

About the role (External)

What does the average day look like?

You will be integral in driving forward the Occupational Health, Hygiene and Wellbeing strategy within Network Rail Control Period 7 (2024 - 2029).

You will provide technical input to research and improvement projects needed to deliver the occupational health and wellbeing strategy, including, but not limited to, those related to medical fitness-to-work requirements, drugs and alcohol, mental health, health promotion, health surveillance and management of occupational health hazards, working with multidisciplinary teams across Network Rail.

Leading by example, you'll provide expert advice and guidance on the medical aspects of occupational health, wellbeing and safety across Network Rail.

You will support the monitoring and continual improvement of occupational health and wellbeing services from third-party providers to deliver the organisation's occupational health and wellbeing requirements, monitoring occupational health and wellbeing-related data and performance metrics, ensuring organisational performance can be measured, and improvement plans embedded.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

We're seeking a dedicated candidate to join our team, where your unique skill set will shine. As an experienced Occupational Health Adviser, a Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register or part 3, your expertise lays a solid foundation for success. With qualifications in occupational health, including, diploma, or degree or an MSC, along with experience working for a large multi-disciplinary organisation in a senior position, you're well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the role head-on.

Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will ensure effective collaboration within our diverse team and with our valued clients. We value autonomy, and your ability to work independently will be key to your success. Your proficiency in IT, coupled with a deep understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and GDPR compliance, ensures that health governance remain paramount.

  • Location: This role is a National position, with a requirement for some travel. The role is hybrid and you will be required to base yourself in one of Network Rail locations, This role is currently based at the Milton Keynes Office but other locations may be considered by the hiring manager on a case-by-case basis.
