Job Overview


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a enthusiastic, self motivated and forward thinking Staff nurse to join our team in the Discharge Lounge based at Frimley Park Hospital.

Working with a well established team , which are currently in the process of expanding the post holder will be able to work independently, also with other team members to transfer patients to the Discharge Lounge to support with capacity and flow.

Main duties of the job

To promote and identify patients that are suitable to transfer to our new Discharge Lounge and support and encourage ward staff to utilise the Lounge and ensure patients safety and care is adhered too through the discharge planning process.

  • To deliver high quality patient care to patients and relatives.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and their relatives.
  • To demonstrate the ability to asses, monitor & implement care. Developing techniques & skills.
  • To have a working knowledge of Health and safety regulations.
  • To participate in departmental meetings, helping initiate new ideas.
  • To work well as part of a team and also work using own initiative, building new working relationships.

Essential criteria

  • Current UK NMC registration
  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development
  • Recent experience (within the last 2 years) within an acute NHS healthcare setting

Desirable criteria

  • Educated to Nursing Degree level or working towards degree pathway

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and delegation skills
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues
  • Evidence of Band 5 generic clinical competencies
  • Effective It skills: MS office, windows, outlook e-mail, experience with using clinical patient information systems
  • Able to prioritise workload and manage a specific clinical area

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Discharge planning procedures

  • 2 x Years experience within a hospital setting
