NHS Grampian is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Dental Health Support Worker to cover the Deeside and Westhill areas. The post holder will deliver the Childsmile programme which is a national programme funded by the Scottish Executive to promote and improve the oral health of children in Scotland.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to educate and support families with their oral health while enabling them to access oral health promotion and dental preventative treatment programmes as well as linking, referring and signposting them to wider community services.

You will work with colleagues and the wider community, contributing to the identification and development of a network of services that could not necessarily be provided by healthcare setting alone e.g. income maximisation, community food and cooking skills

You will support the integration of oral health into existing services both within and out with healthcare e.g. breast feeding groups, healthy weight groups.

You will provide the main link between families, the dental team, health visiting teams and education staff within establishments who participate in the programme as well as engaging with the most vulnerable groups and communities

You will support education establishments in delivering the toothbrushing programme and provide oral health sessions to education establishments and local community groups. You will need to be creative with your delivery in order to empower families and children to care for their oral health and understand the benefits of maintaining good oral health. You will organize delivery of the fluoride varnish programme should this be targeted within your area of work.

Candidates should be strong team player, sharing ideas and contributing to improve the service, motivated, have strong people and communication skills, be able to interact on all levels and be flexible with a willingness to travel across Grampian.
