The Medical Secretarial Service have a vacancy for Medical Secretary to join the Breast Surgical Team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This exciting opportunity would be ideal for an experienced secretary or administrator looking to expand on their existing knowledge or move in to the medical secretarial team.
The post
The post holder will work as part of the Medical Secretary Team in the Breast Department at ARI to provide secretarial and administrative support to Consultant Surgeons and their medical and nursing staff.
This is a busy but rewarding post in a fast based specialty with a high volume of cancer patients. The post holder will be responsible for booking theatre lists, typing outpatient clinics, diary management, answering patient queries, and management of the awaiting results system alongside other administrative and secretarial tasks.
The post is part-time at 29.7 hours per week, reducing to approx. 28.8 hours per week over the next 2 years (with no loss of pay) in line with the NHS Scotland reduced working week.
What We Love To See
The ideal candidate should have previous Medical Secretary experience or experience in a similar role including scheduling of appointments/diary management, and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. The ability to touch type with experience of audio typing is also essential.

The Medical Secretarial Service provides secretarial and administration support to medical, surgical, and clinical teams across the acute sector of NHS Grampian. The team consists of Medical Secretaries, Audio Typists, Administrators, Filing Clerks, Receptionists, Trainers, PAs, and the Management Team.
There are opportunities for expansion and progression within the Medical Secretarial Service, including expanding your knowledge in to various other medical, surgical, and clinical services, or over time developing in to supervisory, training, or management roles.
