An opportunity has arisen to come and work with our forward thinking, inclusive, Home Birth Team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking forexperienced midwiveswanting to provide continuity of carer to women and people who have chosen to book a homebirth. We would like to hear from midwives who have experience in facilitating birth in out of hospital settings, and who are competent and confident in supporting physiological birth. If you have a passion for empowering women and birthing people with knowledge and confidence, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Applicants from Black, Asian and minority backgrounds who have additional language skills will be especially welcomed.
Applicants must be aware that this is a 24 hour 7 day a week service and in order to meet service requirements you will be called upon to work long days, nights and weekend shifts or an "on-call" model of care provision.
As a qualified midwife the post holder will be required to provide the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct deliveries under their own responsibility and care of the new born in a home setting. The post holder requires excellent communication skills and be willing and able to share information with colleagues across the MDT regarding care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. They will have a sound knowledge of standard pregnancy care as well as being able to identify complications that require referral to an obstetrician. They will be confident in working independently and ensuring a clam and safe environment at home for intrapartum care. They will have the necessary skills to manage obstetric emergencies in an out of hospital setting. They will be skilled in supporting parents in the immediate postnatal period, including advice on infant feeding and responsive and gentle parenting. The post holder will be required to participate in their continuing professional development as well as support student midwives and junior midwives in gaining confidence in midwifery led models of care. They will have an up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based care and be confident in supporting women and birthing people who make choices outside of the cultural norm.
