Band 7: £54,320 to £60,981 a year Per Annum Inclusive of HCAS  FIXED TERM 
The CNS will provide specialistsymptom control to patients from the time of a diagnosis of metastatic cancer throughout the treatment of disease, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immune therapy and targeted therapies, and beyond.

Patient reported outcomes as well as a variety of other data will be collected to assess and demonstrate the effects of the service. The person will work closely with other members of the team (Palliative Care Consultant, Band 8A CNS and 2 part time GPs with a special interest in Palliative Care).

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced Oncology or Palliative Care nurse to join our Enhanced Supportive Care team for a period of 6 months initially, with possibility to extend to 12 months upon review. You will work as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team and use your clinical expertise to provide specialist symptom control to improve patients' quality of life during their treatment for incurable cancer.

You will have the opportunity to improve patient care tohelp us meet the needs of the increasing number of patients living withincurable cancer and receiving ever more complex treatments.

The successful applicant will be an experienced canceror palliative care nurse with proven clinical skills and knowledge in the field of cancer.We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills who has the ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers and provide specialist symptom control for complex physical and psychosocial needs

The CNS is expected to be an expert in their field providing highly specialist nursing input and manage a clinical caseload.

TheClinical Nurse Specialist(CNS)is a leadership role within the Trust responsible for the development of innovative nursing practice within the specialty. The post-holder is also expected to facilitate the development of other nurses in order to benefit patient care and to be an educational resource to all members of the trust wide multi-disciplinary team (MDT) regarding nursing practice in the provision of care.

TheESCCNSis a key role within themultidisciplinaryteam.The roleincludesco-ordinating and delivering complex care to patients as well as supporting research activities. The CNSwillplayan active part in developing the service, and ensuring it is high quality, patient-centred,efficientand in linewith national cancerstandards.

The postholder will have a key role in working clinically with oncology multidisciplinary teams - medical staff and site specific Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) - and other nursing and Allied Health Professionals within the Macmillan Cancer Centre to proactively recognise patients with advanced cancer who have unmet symptom and psychological needs, to clinically review them and work with them to optimise symptom control and plan for their future. S/he will also create and maintain good links with primary care - General Practice, Community Palliative Care Teams, community nursing etc - to optimise communication and integration, and to facilitate care in the community setting.
