There are 12 middle grade funded posts in the Cardiology Directorate of which 5 are training posts and are allocated by the Deanery. There are 4 FY2s assigned to the cardiology department, 1 core trainee and 1 specialty doctor and 3 ANP. There is also 1 research fellow.
The on-call ward week will be supported by a middle grade as well as the specialty doctors and FY2s and ANPs.

This post is fixed term, there will be a substantive replacement consultant PCI post in due course. The post holder will, in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, provide PCI and general cardiology, and play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department and the 24/7 PCI on-call service.
We are expanding our consultant body and are looking for an interventionist consultant cardiologist to work as part of our PCI team. We need someone who will work well within our existing team of PCI interventionists to enhance the existing service. You would be joining an enthusiastic team. The successful applicant will be part of a
1:17 week
cardiology ward weekday on-call rota when normal activities are cancelled and a
1:10
PPCI rota. The PPCI rota includes 2 visiting consultants.
It is anticipated that an average of 10 - 12 patients would be seen by the post holder per clinic these would be a mixture of new and review cases. The post holder will take part in the cardiology ward cover and 1:17 weeks will spend a week based on the ward and on-call for ward patients. There are 43 beds on the cardiology ward.
The ward on-call and the emergency PCI on-call rotas have been separated out and weekend ward rounds are undertaken by the non-PCI consultants to enable the PCI consultant to focus on PCI. You will be on-call for PCI the weekend after your ward week and will remain on-call for the ward during this weekend, the non-PCI consultant will feed back to you following his/her ward round. The on-call elements of this post will be discussed after appointment and reflected in the agreed job plan with the individual. In line with the Royal College of Physician's guidance discussions will include the option of time off in lieu or additional duties being paid.
