An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Occupational therapy assistant to support the work of the Occupational Therapists (OT) at HMP Wormwood Scrubs. Wormwood Scrubs is a large Category B remand prison serving the diverse population of West London.
The OT team are part of a broader health and wellbeing team comprising OT's, a speech and language therapist, psychology, primary care mental health, and substance misuse workers. The post offers opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of individuals with complex health and social care needs, including those with mental health and personality disorder, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorder, as well as those who have physical health needs.
There will be opportunity to provide input into a varied activity based group program as well as a psycho-education program. The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work alongside OTs to implement care plans as laid out by the OT team.
The post holder will be required to support the delivery of care currently in the form of New Models of Care, enabling the service to meet the London Wide service specification standards for Prison Healthcare.
The post holder will receive regular individual supervision to support their practice, as well as opportunities to engage in reflective practice groups. The team has a strong emphasis on support and training, with a regular internal program of training, as well as funding external providers for specialist needs.
The successful candidate will be contributing to the teams efforts to build back services following the pandemic, ensuring high quality mental health services to meet the needs of those in prison.
