Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner in in PUBLISHED 21 MAY 2024

Band 5  FIXED TERM 
Evidence of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem, or any other health and social care needs.

This is a training role within the Talking Therapies service (previously IAPT). The post-holder will work within DHC Talking Therapies providing high volume low intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. The training post will equip the post holder to provide a range of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression related difficulties. The post holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the National Low Intensity curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities. The post holder will be working remotely (from home) and on-site (from one of our hub locations; Redhill, Oxted, Dorking, Epsom, Guildford, Woking, Weybridge). The post-holder will work a minimum of one day a week on-site.

The post-holder must be available to start the week commencing the 23rd September 2024.

Successful applicants will start the course by attending University of Surrey 2 days a week (a hybrid of online and face-to-face teaching days on the Guildford campus) and will have a number of self-guided study days as well as 16 practice-day task days to complete set learning. The remaining days are spent in-service completing client work. As the course progresses, trainees work towards 5 days a week in service.

The post-holder will work within the DHC Talking Therapies Step 2 Team conducting assessments and providing high-volume; low intensity CBT interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression via face to face, telephone and video, as well as workshops and CBT.

Following successful completion of your training, you will receive a Postgraduate or Undergraduate certificate of Advance Practice in Psychological Wellbeing and will be able to work as a qualified PWP. You will also be able to apply for registration with the BABCP or BPS. You will be unable to apply for another HEE funded course until you are 2 years' post-qualification.

The role is likely to start late Sept 2024 (exact date tbc). Service interviews will be held between 21/06- 28/06 and will be followed by a second-round university interview (exact dates tbc).

  • Ability to manage your own workload under pressure and at a fast pace, and meet agreed targets
  • Ability to work a combination of remote days (from home) and travel for on-site days (from a hub location; Redhill, Oxted, Dorking, Epsom, Guildford, Woking, Weybridge)
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the mental health wellbeing of Surrey residents in our catchment area and work as a dependable team member.

Applications are open for those with or without an undergraduate degree, but applicants will need a minimum of 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) and relevant experience working in a health care role. Applicants will be keen to pursue a career in treatment of common mental health concerns. Please note, applicants without a degree will have to provide evidence of prior learning to the University of Surrey to demonstrate that they are able to meet the academic demands of the course.
