The post holder will undertake routine, technical and clerical duties for the Blood Sciences
Department. They will rotate on a regular basis through the different sections of the department carrying out pre-analytical phase of laboratory testing.
Training will be given to ensure competency in all areas of activity for each section. The post
holder will maintain an adequate level of competency and ensure competency records are kept up to date. Continuous professional development will be encouraged. The jobholder will be expected to follow all the protocols and SOPs appropriate to their work. The post is likely to be based primarily on one of the two sites, HRI or CRH, but there is an expectation that the individual will work on either site depending on the needs of the service.
The main duties will include the receipt and pre-analytical processing of patient samples; inputting patient and specimen details into the laboratory computer system; loading automated analysers, basic trouble shooting; dealing with telephone enquiries regarding results of laboratory investigations and general housekeeping duties. The work can sometimes be quite physically demanding. Successful candidates must have good keyboard, communication and organisational skills, together with an excellent work ethic.
