You will have a degree and relevant experience in a health related and/or education field preferably with a postgraduate qualification in health promotion.
The Health Promotion Service leads on approaches and services that maintain and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. This covers the life course, early years and children, adults and older adults.
We are recruiting one full-time fixed term 12 month Health Promotion Officer. Working primarily as part of the Health Promotion Training Team you will predominantly work directly in partnership with colleagues within Education and Children’s Services as well as colleagues from Health & Social Care, NHS Fife and Fife Council, plus a range of third sector partners and private sector organisations in Fife.
You will take a lead role in the planning and delivery of a portfolio of Mental Health Training for children and young people across all Fife secondary schools. This is in response to the increasing concerns around mental health and emotional wellbeing, and the growing number of young people who are keen to take on a leadership role to support their peers, challenge mental health stigma and promote positive emotional wellbeing.
You will actively contribute to change in practice/service provision through training delivery by taking a whole-school approach, centred around prevention and early intervention to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. You will work to scope out need and continue to create relevant, engaging and accessible training opportunities, building on previous programmes of mental health and wellbeing training, building capacity of the workforce to deliver and encourage new ways of working. Training pathways will be identified for staff supporting young people, and for senior pupils within schools and other young people identified as young leaders in offering peer support.
Key to this will be working with Health and Wellbeing leads within Education, school staff, and senior pupils across all secondary schools in Fife, to encourage a whole school approach to understanding the risk factors that can affect children and young people’s mental health and how these can be mitigated
You will have extensive current experience of face to face and digital training delivery and be required to demonstrate your knowledge and experience of mental health and wellbeing theory and practice and the impact this has on children and young people and the wider school community.
You will have a degree and relevant experience in a health related and/or education field preferably with a postgraduate qualification in health promotion. Excellent knowledge and understanding is required of the health improvement agenda, education and structures and systems across Community Planning Partner organisations especially as they relate to the theory and practice of mental health and wellbeing. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a track record of delivering high quality training in demanding timescales.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
