One Health Lewisham have an exciting opportunity for an
Healthcare Assistant
with extensive experience in primary care settings who's looking for the chance to make a difference within our Lewisham communities. You will have the chance to support OHL in the delivery of assisted nursing services working as part of our multidisciplinary team. In addition, you will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education. In particular, you will be required to carry out health checks, long-term conditions checks and provide appropriate support to carry out minor surgeries. Experience in these areas is therefore fundamental.


Your new role:

As our new Healthcare Assistant, you will:

  • Undertake health checks for patients with long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension;
  • Support One Health Lewisham with health promotion programmes;
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately;
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required;
  • Support the One Health Lewisham Clinical team with the management of chronic disease clinics;
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed;
  • Act as a chaperone as required;
  • Administer immunisations if required;
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation;
  • Provide support during minor operations as required;
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session;
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance, ensuring temperatures are recorded daily;
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with One Health Lewishams IPC policy;
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate;
  • When trained, perform Spirometry/FEno;
  • Support long-term condition reviews, including but not limited to diabetes, hypertension, COPD and Asthma.


Requirements:

  • Healthcare qualification or equivalent level (Care Certificate);
  • Relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years;
  • Must have used Emis and associated QOF targets;
  • Ability to take bloods, and do all measurements required for long-terms conditions, e.g. diabetic foot check.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle
