Clinical & Professional Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing support and advice, especially after hours, for patient care and referral to medical staff.
  • Perform clinical interventions and teach procedures to ward staff.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding patient care and management.
  • Maintain theoretical knowledge and ensure safe equipment use.
  • Promote infection prevention and reduce hospital-acquired infections.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills and implement evidence-based practice.


Management Responsibilities:

  • Assist in hospital operations and provide leadership for patient care.
  • Coordinate emergency responses and manage bed resources effectively.
  • Foster good relationships with staff, patients, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Redeploy staff as needed and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Act as a role model and maintain professionalism.


Capacity Management:

  • Participate in capacity meetings and maintain accurate bed state information.
  • Coordinate with personnel to optimise bed utilisation.
  • Ensure timely and safe discharge and transfer of patients.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the patient pathway and escalate infection control concerns.
  • Support site management 24/7 and collect capacity data for audits.


Education Responsibilities:

The post holder will mainly be based St Peter's Hospital to fulfil role which will include but not limited to:

  • Work in support of the Clinical Site Nurse Practitioners (CSNP) in providing support to areas across the hospital through good leadership, management and clinical skills.
  • Support the CSNPs by providing expanded clinical skills to ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care. Act as a first point of contact for ward staff on clinical issues out of hours.
  • Support the CSNPs in delivering capacity management and patient flow within the hospital.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Hospital at Night team to provide a comprehensive service.
