Are you a kind and patient person? Can you spare some time just 6 times a year to visit a person with a learning disability? We support a 74-year-old year old gentleman in Brighton who would like a volunteer to join him either in his home or in his community. He is someone with a passion for arts, painting and drawing. He enjoys getting out and about in his community and is part of a local arts group. If you have a car he would love to go further afield with you but staying very local and using public transport is fine by him. This gentleman has a learning disability. He is supported by a lovely and professional care team throughout the week.
You would need to be: A person with good communication skills kind, patient, engaging and passionate about supporting people with a learning disability. Does this describe you? If so, please get in touch.
The Mencap Visiting Service was founded in 1963. It meant that the parents of a person with a learning disability could know that someone would look in on them when they were no longer around. In this volunteer role, you will not only be providing a valuable social visit to this man, but also honouring the wishes of his parents.
