Our Acute Medical Unit is undergoing an exciting period of change and we are on the search for Band 2 Support workers with an interest in working in acute medicine, helping to deliver exceptional patient-centred care, within a fast paced environment in which priorities change quickly.

Variety of working patterns which attract shift allowances. The shifts that you will be expected to work will include weekends as well as the below shift times:

Early: 07:30 - 15:30

Late: 12:00 - 20:00

Long: 07:30 - 20:00

Nights: 19:30 - 08:00

NHS Salary Band: Band 2

Salary: £23,615 per annum

Work Location: Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham

Hours per week: Full time, 37.5 hours per week (will consider part time, minimum 22.5)

Contract Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals in the Acute Medical Unit, you will be assisting the team with the provision of clinical care for a defined group of patients.You are likely to be asked to support with patients who may require 1 to 1 help and there may be patients who present challenging behaviours.

  • Provide care for patients,helping to maintain their personal hygiene, which will sometimes include working with bodily fluids
  • Provide physical comfort for patients, whilst ensuring their privacy and dignity is always maintained
  • Wash and dress patients, and helping them to safely move around
  • Working directly with patients that may require close observation (emotional and psychological support)
  • Serve meals and help with feeding
  • Assist with cleaning tasks and making beds
  • Record information to patient administration system and assist team with other administrative duties
