An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced occupational therapist to join the Prehabilitation Service at BHRUT. The post holder will cover, develop and expand the current prehabilitation service for people with cancer. We are looking for an enthusiastic occupational therapist with an oncology or surgical background and a specialist interest prehabilitation to develop the prehabilitation service at BHRUT. The Band 7 occupational therapist will lead the prehabilitation service for the Trust working with the physiotherapist, dietician and support workers in this newly developed service alongside the Macmillian Living with and beyond cancer team to provide a high quality; evidence based prehabilitation occupational therapy service. They will prioritise referrals, co-ordinate appointments, assess patients and treat patients managing physical consequences of cancer and its treatment. They should have an excellent knowledge of the theory and practice of prehabilitation and post-surgical care including the key elements of exercise prescription, psychological support and healthy diet, and the use of supported self-management strategies and onward referral. This post provides an exciting opportunity to work within a newly created team providing a high quality treatment to cancer patients and the opportunity to develop and expand the service.
This position involves working collaboratively with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in running of a prehabilitation service and improvement of the cancer services for patients living with and beyond cancer. Leadership and clinical support will be provided by the Macmillan Living with and Beyond Cancer Lead, the BHRUT Lead Cancer Nurse and the Acute Respiratory, Critical Care and Surgical Clinical Lead Therapist.
The post holder will autonomously manage a clinical caseload within the BHRUT surgical cancer pathway for all cancer types, using evidence based/client centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in the designated setting.
The post holder will play a key clinical leadership role in the Prehabilitation Service for patients on the surgical cancer pathway at BHRUT by contributing, planning, developing and evaluating the service within their area of specialism. This will include leading in audit and service evaluation, including data collection and establishing clear outcome measures to inform future development of a sustainable model of care and associated business cases.
