The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement and by working closely with the broader Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT).
The post will be based on a Geriatric non-acute/rehabilitation ward at Mansfield Community Hospital.
Mansfield Community Hospital has 3 Geriatric Wards (Oakham Ward, Lindhurst Ward, Chatsworth Ward). Each of these wards is staffed by one middle grade doctor/ACP working with the members of the MDT and supported by a consultant who provides 2 sessions per week to the ward.
These wards are for frail, elderly patients who have been transferred from acute medical wards at Kings Mill Hospital but who are medically fit and who may require a period of rehabilitation before being discharged to their place of residence.
These Specialty Doctor roles provide input to the wards from Monday to Friday (9am-5pm) only with no on-call commitment. Out of hours cover (including weekend cover) is provided by the GP out of hours service (NEMS).
There are excellent educational opportunities, both formal (weekly medical Grand Round, weekly Geriatric Department educational meeting, specialist clinics) and informal e.g. ward round teaching. There will also be an opportunity to attend out-patient clinics in order to gain further experience within the specialty. There are weekly Movement Disorder and Osteoporosis clinics at the Community Hospital for example, but it will also be possible to attend clinics at Kings Mill Hospital which is only one mile away. There are also many opportunities for audit and QIP projects whilst working at the hospital.
The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
- The post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive medical service to the inpatients, undertaking ward work and conducting out-patient clinics under the instruction and supervision of the appropriate Consultant.
- To establish and maintain liaison with users of the service including local General Practitioners and other external agencies.
- The post holder will undertake to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- To actively participate in audit/teaching and research activities within the department.
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary team regarding patient care.
- There may be occasions where you are required to undertake similar duties at other hospitals within the Sherwood Forest hospitals NHS Trust.
- Perform administrative work i.e., discharge summaries and letters/reports within prescribed timescales.
- The Specialty Doctor will be expected to comply with the Royal College requirements for undertaking CME and to participate in the trusts appraisal system as appropriate.
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
