The States of Guernsey is seeking a Substance Misuse Practitioner to join the Community Drug & Alcohol Team, focusing on specialist assessments and interventions for individuals dealing with substance misuse issues. This role involves managing medication induction and detoxification in both inpatient and community settings, while collaborating with various health services including mental health, sexual health, and blood-borne virus treatment. Candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience in mental health or substance use treatment and be capable of independently assessing and addressing complex patient needs. Responsibilities include developing evidence-based care programs, promoting patient involvement, guiding junior staff, and adhering to professional standards.

In addition to patient care, the Practitioner will engage in leadership, planning, and policy development activities. This includes collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, coordinating schedules, effectively utilizing resources, and advocating for patients. The role also emphasises professional development, requiring the Practitioner to maintain their own training and assist in educating staff. The position demands excellent communication skills to manage relationships with service users and healthcare providers while contributing to quality improvement initiatives and service audits to ensure optimal patient care.
