Support clinicians in a hands-on GP Assistant role with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based in Gosport (PO12) — with opportunities also in Southampton. You will be an integral part of a busy primary care team, combining administrative organisation with basic clinical duties that free up GP time and keep surgeries running smoothly. Typical duties include sorting and prioritising clinical post, triaging eConsults, extracting and coding information from letters, booking appointments, referrals and tests, preparing patients for consultations (brief history, urine dips, observations), taking blood pressure, ECGs and performing phlebotomy, completing core elements of routine forms for GP sign-off, supporting immunisations and wound care, and liaising with other agencies. The role suits compassionate, practical people — particularly women and those returning to or balancing caring responsibilities — who enjoy patient contact, clear routines and varied tasks within a supportive multi-disciplinary team.

You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) and NVQ/Apprenticeship Level 2 in Business & Administration or similar; a GP Assistant certificate, IT skills and primary care experience are desirable. Strong communication, organisation, confidentiality and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential. This permanent, externally funded post is Agenda for Change Band 3 (£24,937–£26,598 pro rata) and offers full- and part-time hours with flexible working considered. A DBS check is required. The Trust values compassion, accountability, respect and excellence and provides training and career development across its integrated services.
