Job description
As a Carer Peer Support Worker with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based at Highbury Hospital (NG6), you will use your lived experience of caring for someone with complex emotional needs — often described as a ‘personality disorder’ — to offer practical, strengths-based support and hope to other carers. The role combines one-to-one peer support, active listening and goal-setting with running and supporting carers’ groups, developing links with local mental health teams across Nottinghamshire and keeping strengths-focused clinical records. This permanent, part-time post is band 3 (Agenda for Change) with a salary of £24,937 to £26,598 pro rata, and involves emotionally rewarding work with training, guidance and ongoing support from the personality disorder team and wider organisation.
This opportunity is designed for people who have been in a caring role and who can bring empathy, non-judgemental listening and practical coping strategies to others. You’ll need the ability to travel to different community locations, a commitment to recovery-focused practice and willingness to complete peer support training; prior NHS experience is not essential. The Trust offers strong colleague wellbeing provision — occupational health, counselling and staff networks including Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Menopause Champions — making this especially attractive to women carers seeking flexible, meaningful work that values life experience. Please note a DBS check is required (costs are deducted from salary: standard £26.40 or enhanced £54.40, and annual DBS Update Service fee £16 if you enrol) and this post does not meet the salary criteria for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
