PERMANENT
Job description
Support healthy, happy starts for babies and pre-school children as a Catering Assistant at Free Spirits nursery, part of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This permanent, part‑time role is based at Freeman Hospital (NE7) in a busy 88‑place nursery for children from six months to pre‑school. The post is Band 2, £24,465 a year pro rata, working 17.5 hours a week across two days (Monday and Tuesday). The Trust is family‑friendly and open to flexible working where the service allows, making this a great opportunity for carers and women looking for predictable, school‑friendly hours and a practical role that supports children’s wellbeing.
You’ll prepare simple, nutritious foods, collate meal numbers and prepare trolleys, assist staff with serving and clearing meals, and maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene (including daily fridge temperature records and COSHH/Health & Safety compliant laundry duties such as washing curtains and fabric play equipment). You’ll liaise closely with nursery staff to meet dietary and allergen needs. An awareness of good food hygiene is essential and an up‑to‑date Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate and prior catering experience are desirable; the post requires a DBS check. The role sits within a supportive NHS environment with staff benefits and clear training pathways.
