Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as a clinician within our rapidly expanding PaediatricPsychology Service at Darent Valley Hospital with specific responsibility for supporting inpatientand outpatient services. The Service was commissioned in 2022 to deliver psychological input tochildren and young people up to the age of 16 years old with emotional needs in the context of theirhealth condition. We work with children and young people with a variety of presentations and haveclose links with all our Specialist Nurse Teams including Epilepsy and Neurology, Diabetes andSickle Cell.

Additionally, the team offer services inpatient support through a weekly ward-basedgroup for adolescents as well as a weekly Consultation Service for our multidisciplinary colleaguescaring for children with complex needs currently residing on the children's ward.

The Paediatric Psychology Service are keen to hear from current 3rd year trainee psychologistslooking for their first qualified post in addition to those already working at a band 7 level.

The post holder will provide a specialist psychological assessment and treatment service wherethey will work collaboratively with children and families and their wider system towards that child'saims and goals.

There will be opportunity to work with children and families within their own homes and community venues such as schools, away from the medicalising setting of the hospital.

The post holder will offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to nonpsychologist colleagues and to other, nonprofessional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the services' policies and procedures.

The Paediatric Psychology Service works closely with various agencies and services to achieve the best emotional and physical health outcomes for children, young people and their families. This includes liaison with London-Based hospitals, local children's services, voluntary sector organisations, schools, GPs and child & adolescent mental health teams.

The team currently finds itself in a period of rapid growth with a number of new posts being created, including the incorporation of an 8a post across Paediatrics and Neonates, representing opportunity for ongoing development and progression for the successful post holder.
