An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead theSpecialist School Nursing Serviceacross eight schools in Surrey.

AsClinical Team Leader,you will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the service, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care is delivered by a skilled team of practitioners.

Working in close partnership with Education and Social Care, you will champion best practice in meeting the complex health needs of children and young people with learning disabilities. You will also provide expert safeguarding advice in collaboration with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding.

This role requires an experienced and compassionate leader with a proven track record in managing high-performing teams and delivering community-based healthcare. You will be expected to work flexibly and autonomously, promoting service innovation and user involvement to achieve the best health outcomes.

You will:

• Lead and support a multidisciplinary team across multiple school settings.

• Ensure services areevidence-based, equitable, and efficient, aligned with NMC codes and HCRG Care Group policies.

• Promote and embedclinical governance, including safeguarding, quality improvement, and performance monitoring.

• Foster strong relationships with children, families, education staff, and partner agencies.

Main ResponsibilitiesCommunication & Collaboration

• Ensures internal communication and professional advice align with quality standards.

• Leads service analysis and planning based on data and national policy.

• Investigates incidents, applies professional judgment, and ensures workforce capacity.

• Translates policy into practice to drive service improvement.

• Oversees recruitment, appraisals, training compliance, and clinical supervision.

• Supports staff development, performance management, and CPD planning.

• Promotes role innovation and team leadership.

• Ensures compliance with health, safety, confidentiality, and equality standards.

• Manages risks, incidents, and safeguarding protocols in line with governance policies.

• Develops policies and clinical guidelines based on evidence and audits.

• Leads or supports service evaluations and redesign initiatives.

• Encourages public involvement and integrated working across sectors.

• Maintains a clinical role (approx. 60%) supporting complex care needs and emergencies.

• Offers specialist advice on treatment plans and safeguarding.

• Enhances care pathways and promotes national care initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

• Qualifications: Registered Nurse (Children's, LD, or Adult); mentorship qualification (ENB 998 or equivalent); clinical supervision facilitator; Masters degree or equivalent experience; management/leadership qualification.
• Professional Experience: Experienced specialist practitioner; staff and service management; evidence of CPD; clinical audit and service development experience.
• Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of community health services, nursing workforce issues, health & safety, and risk management. Broad clinical skills, team leadership, effective workload management, and ability to prioritise and delegate.
• Communication & IT: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication; computer literate.
• Personal Attributes: Judgement, resilience under pressure, flexibility, reliability, assertiveness, innovation, and commitment.
• Other Requirements: Ability to travel within the county; ability to work across professional boundaries; occasional moderate physical effort.

Desirable

• Qualification in clinical audit and/or clinical research.
• Child protection supervisor.
• Masters degree or equivalent experience gained by undertaking on- going personal development and training.
• Ability to interpret and illustrate data
• Experience of involvement clinical practice development /guideline development
• Experience of undertaking clinical research
