The appointment is for a full-time Consultant Physician in Cardiology with an interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology jointly with Imperial College Hospital NHS Hospitals Trust. Applications are invited from Full time, Part time and Job Share applicants. If a person is appointed as a part-time or job share position modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. The post holder will work with the existing Consultants to develop services in Cardiology and arises from increasing demand for services. This post is designed to support cardiology services, particularly Cardiac Electrophysiology and as such a specialist interest in these areas is preferred. An interest in devices can also be accommodated. This is an exciting time for the service with a new diagnostic centre planned for the West Middlesex Site, with cardiac MRI as part of this new centre and an increasing innovation and research programme. Newly appointed consultants will have access to mentoring support. This post is a joint development with colleagues at Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust to support development of arrhythmia services at both Trusts and further develop collaborative working.

About us

Cardiology services fall within the recently formed Medical Division. The Cardiology department is part of the outpatients area which comprises of all medical and surgical outpatient areas in addition to diagnostic and imaging services. The inpatient ward (Syon 1 on West Midd site , AAU on the Chelsea site) provides care for all cardiology patients including those who require non-invasive ventilation and step down patients from ITU/HDU. Our catheter lab opened in 2and currently performs a range of coronary procedures including shock wave, IFR/ FFR/ IVUS and brady pacing. We undertake around 1500 procedures per annum.

The cardiology service is involved in local and regional projects designed to modernise and improve outpatient services, some of which have received national recognition. At present the main focus of the directorate is to redesign services around the needs of the patient along Ambulatory care and digital pathways.

Person specification Education and Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and MRCP
  • On specialist register or within 6 months of completion for CCT in Cardiology
  • The candidate should have advanced training in an area of cardiology
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • Higher research degree
Experience Essential criteria
  • Evidence of broad based training experience in General Cardiology
  • Experience in audit and research
  • Advanced skills in Electrophysiology.
Skills & Knowledge Essential criteria
  • High level of Cardiology skills
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduate trainees
Desirable criteria
  • Higher research degree PhD , MD or equivalent
