Job description
Make a real difference as Deputy Manager at a well-established children’s residential home in Sunderland, supporting young people with learning disabilities and autism. This full‑time, on‑site permanent role pays £40,000 per annum and puts you at the heart of day‑to‑day leadership: you’ll support the Registered Manager, deputise when required, supervise and mentor staff, and ensure delivery of person‑centred, trauma‑informed care using Positive Behaviour Support. You will maintain detailed care plans and risk assessments, uphold Ofsted and Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) standards, manage safeguarding, build relationships with families and professionals, and contribute to recruitment, rota planning, budgeting and on‑call cover to keep the home safe and nurturing.
This opportunity is for experienced residential care professionals with a Level 3 Diploma (or equivalent) and at least two years’ experience in children’s residential settings, confident in supporting young people with learning disabilities, autism and behaviours that challenge. You’ll need strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, a sound working knowledge of safeguarding and regulations, flexibility for varied hours including on‑call, and a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle. Desirable extras include Level 5 leadership qualifications (or willingness to work towards), PBS/trauma‑informed training and Ofsted inspection experience. Gillespie Recruitment offers clear progression, support towards Level 5, ongoing professional training and wellbeing initiatives within an inclusive, supportive culture — particularly well suited to carers (many of whom are women) looking to step into leadership. Enhanced DBS and references are required; closing date 6 December 2025. Click the Apply Now button to apply — this vacancy is also listed on jobsincare.com.
