Based in Basildon with Essex County Council, this full-time Drug and Alcohol Support Worker role (salary £31,931–£36,423) sits within a Multi‑Disciplinary Team in the Children & Families service. This fixed‑term post (or secondment) runs to February 2028 and closes on 25 November 2025. Working alongside social workers and specialist colleagues in housing, domestic abuse, education and mental health, you will deliver recovery‑focused interventions in the community and family homes. Day‑to‑day duties include engaging adults with complex substance misuse, carrying out risk assessments and safety planning, developing and reviewing individual recovery plans, and using structured techniques such as motivational interviewing, ITEP/BTEI and cognitive behavioural approaches to strengthen parenting capacity and family stability.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced substance misuse practitioners and carers who have worked with high‑risk families and want a role with clear impact, professional development and strong team support. You’ll be accountable for partnership working with health and local services, accurate recording to meet contractual and performance standards, and contributing to a culture that values training and supervision — backed by Essex’s investment in workforce excellence and two consecutive Outstanding Ofsted ratings.
