Job responsibilities
Role SummaryTo support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.Primary ResponsibilitiesUndertake new patient health checksSupport the practice nurse with health promotion programmesCarry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accuratelyPhlebotomyUndertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as requiredSupport the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinicsCarry out BMI checks as directedCarry out ECGs as requestedAct as a chaperone as requiredWhen trained, administer flu vaccinationsEnsure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportationProvide support during minor operations as requiredEnsure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each sessionEnsure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidanceEnsure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policyDeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriateSafeguarding Responsibilities:Patients that are of a safeguarding concern, who fail to attend their appointments, will be contacted to rebook their appointment, this allows the practice to check on the patients welfare and highlight any concerns to the safeguarding lead.To be alert to the potential indicators of abuse or neglect for children and adults and know how to act on those concerns in line with local guidance.To take part in training, in accordance with their roles and responsibilities as outlined by the training frameworks of each Intercollegiate Documents, for Safeguarding Children, Looked after Children and for Safeguarding Adults and implementation of the Mental Capacity Act.Contribute, when requested to do so, to the multi-agency meetings established to safeguard and protect vulnerable patients.Minimise any potential risk to patients.Understand the principles of confidentiality and information sharing in line with local and government guidanceSecondary ResponsibilitiesWhen trained, undertake venepunctureParticipate in practice auditsParticipate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careSupport and participate in shared learning within the practice
