Main duties of the job
The healthcare assistant plays a vital role in supporting clinical services within the practice. While the following outlines the primary duties, additional tasks may be required depending on workload and staffing levels.New Patient Health Checks:Health Promotion Support:Accurately perform and record vital signs including:Blood pressureTemperaturePulse ratePulse oximetryWound Care: Undertake basic dressing changes as directed.Chronic Disease Support: Assist with the running and management of chronic disease clinics.BMI Checks: Carry out Body Mass Index assessments as instructed.Phlebotomy: Qualified in phlebotomyFlu Vaccinations: Administer flu vaccinesECGs: Carry out ECGs as requested by clinical staff.Specimen Handling: Ensure specimens are correctly labelled, recorded, and prepared for transport.Clinical Room Preparation: Maintain stock levels and ensure rooms are clean and ready for each session.Fridge Maintenance: Check clinical fridges regularlyWaste Management: Dispose of clinical waste and replace sharps bins in accordance with infection prevention and control (IPC) policies.Practice Audits: Participate in audits as directed by the audit lead.
