Job description
Practice Plus Group’s Health in Justice team is recruiting a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant to work at HMP Leeds (LS12). This permanent, full‑time role (37.5 hours per week) involves delivering hands‑on clinical care within the substance misuse service: implementing care packages, phlebotomy, assessing and treating patients, managing an appointment ledger, supporting methadone prescribing and withdrawal work, carrying out reception assessments (including observed urine samples) and assisting the NMP and primary care teams. You’ll work varied shifts across Monday to Sunday, including weekends and nights, and be expected to respond to emergency situations. The post suits compassionate carers with NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare and prior experience in healthcare (hospital, A&E or custodial settings advantageous); substance misuse or mental‑health experience is a bonus. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and appointment is subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks and additional vetting.
This role offers a competitive salary up to £29,723 (depending on experience) plus a company pension, 25 days’ annual leave rising to 28 with service, bank holidays, and a wide package of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits. You’ll receive a bespoke induction including the Introducing Health in Justice training, access to a Learning Management System, regional and national development pathways and ongoing team support — ideal for women carers who want a stable job that builds new clinical skills while delivering person‑centred care in a structured environment. The Health in Justice team value integrity, diversity and a non‑judgemental approach, and provide practical support such as an employee assistance helpline and career progression opportunities.
