Job description
As a Healthcare Assistant for Marie Curie’s Hospice Care at Home Overnight Service in the Vale of York (covering Selby, Tadcaster, York and surrounding areas), you will deliver one-to-one palliative care in people’s own homes during night shifts. This permanent, part‑time role comprises 36 hours across various 9‑hour night shifts (10pm–7am). Working within established care plans but with autonomy, your duties will include supporting personal hygiene, observing and recording symptoms, assisting with medication management, keeping clear records and offering calm, compassionate emotional support to patients and their families at the end of life. The role suits experienced carers with recent health or social care experience, an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) and at least six months’ current care delivery; a UK driving licence, access to a car and business insurance are essential. An enhanced DBS check will be required.
The role is paid at Agenda for Change Band 2 (£24,465 pro rata) with substantial enhancements — 41% extra for Saturdays and weekday night duty (8pm–6am) and 83% for Sundays and public bank holidays — plus a strong benefits package: 27 days’ annual leave plus eight public holidays (pro rata), parental and sick leave policies, continuous professional development and industry‑leading training, pension schemes including a Marie Curie Group Personal Pension, season‑ticket loans, bike/computer/GPS loan schemes, help with eye care costs, life assurance, Marie Curie Blue Light Card entitlement and access to a Benefit Hub discount scheme.
