Work at the heart of one of England’s largest microbiology departments in Manchester, supporting Biomedical Scientists to receive, prepare and examine clinical specimens. This permanent role at Manchester Royal Infirmary involves manual and automated testing under supervision, reagent and stock preparation, data entry to laboratory systems, routine equipment maintenance and safe handling of high‑risk samples within Containment Level 3. The department is UKAS‑accredited and encourages CPD; full training is given so no formal laboratory qualifications are required (GCSEs in English, Maths and Science or equivalent are desirable). The post is offered on flexible hours — full‑time, part‑time, job share and shift patterns across a 24/7 service — and is paid at £25,651 to £27,220 pro rata.

This role suits caring, methodical people who value practical, patient‑facing work and steady career development — ideal for women and carers looking for a stable, supportive workplace with training and progression opportunities. You’ll use strong communication, organisation and attention to detail to support urgent result reporting, sample processing and quality‑assured testing, while working in a collaborative team committed to inclusion and equality.
