Job Summary


At NHS Blood and Transplant we are responsible for blood, organ, tissue, and stem cell donation and carrying out cutting edge research along with providing specialist services to hospitals. It takes all types of volunteer donors to make the donations we need, and it takes all types of people to ensure our life saving work goes ahead.

BN1 4BE
and will be your place of work. But don’t worry- we are looking for you to start with us as soon as possible so until our new centre opens, you will join our mobile session and will be based initially at
BN43 6RJ.


The Donor Centre will be open 7 days a week, with a mixture of early and late shifts across the week. Full day shifts are 10 hours (including breaks), with early shifts being 8:00am 6:00pm, and late shifts 10:30am 8:30pm- but there are never any night shifts here! Work-life balance is important to us, and we welcome applications from candidates who would consider flexible working, for example fixed days, fixed shifts, or part shift coverage.

When you join us, we will fully train you and you will have 8 weeks dedicated training at one of our other mobile donation teams. Ideally you will complete your training on a full-time basis if possible, however this is flexible and will be discussed with you on an individual basis.

All interviews for this role will be held face to face and you will need to be able to attend the session visit in person.


Main duties of the job


Your responsibilities will include:-

  • Taking part in training to learn how to insert a needle into a donors arm to achieve a blood donation unit.
  • Looking after our donors throughout their donation journey to ensure they have a positive experience and care.
  • Ensuring all documentation from donors is recorded, keeping accurate records throughout the session.
  • Encouraging donors to return by building relationships and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Ensuring the safe handling and management of blood products, needles and a range of equipment.

Experience and Knowledge


  • Have experience of dealing with the public.
  • Have experience of delivering a quality customer service.
  • Be willing to learn new technology skills and undergo digital training.


Qualifications And Training


  • Have a good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • Be willing to undertake development and training to upskill yourself including completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
