Job Overview


The Eden ward is 17 bedded inpatient Haematology/ Oncology/ Palliative

care ward that provides chemotherapy treatments to patients of all

specialities.

  • Responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
  • To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the Nursing Team.
  • To take the lead on projects as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the unit Matron and other Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all nursing staff within the clinical area of responsibility.
  • To deputise for the unit ward sister/Matron in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce.

  • Registered Nurse
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Nursing degree or on degree pathway

Desirable criteria

  • Degree level registration
  • Chemotherapy administration course / SACT Passport

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Competent in basic life support and IV administration
  • Competent in the administration of chemotherapy.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Effective working with multidisciplinary teams

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in a Band 6 role

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently, but equally well as a member of a team.
  • Awareness of the national agenda for cancer / chemotherapy.

Desirable criteria

  • Report writing

Special Requirements

Essential criteria

  • To work in other areas of the trust when required
  • Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required

Desirable criteria

  • Willingness to acquire and develop additional skills and qualifications necessary to carry out the role
