The Neonatal Unit is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Support Worker.

We are a level 2 Neonatal Unit consisting of 17 cots and we care for babies who are born preterm or require additional support after birth.

This is a non-patient facing role and as a Support Worker on the Neonatal Unit, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of the senior nursing team to carry out duties supporting all staff to be able to care for babies and their families.

To work under the supervision of the senior nursing team to carry out duties supporting all staff in the care of the babies and their families.

Some Of The Key Responsibilities Will Be


  • Ensure ward facilities and equipment are tidy, clean and available for use for children, parents and staff.
  • Clean cots, incubators, and nurseries as required.
  • To assist families resident in family rooms as requested by nursing staff.
  • Report anything observed which causes concern.
  • Help to maintain security and safety on the unit.
  • Answer the reception phone and entrance door buzzer when necessary.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients and their families at all times.
  • To be aware of Children’s safeguarding procedures and report any concerns to the nurse in charge.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Basic computer skills


Skills & Experience


Essential criteria

  • Previous experience of dealing with the general public
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to follow clear instructions and feedback from staff
  • Ability to work with organise own time and work with minimal supervision

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience working in a Neonatal Unit or hospital environment
  • Knowledge of infection control principles
