A friendly independent co-educational prep school in South West London is looking for a School Receptionist who will also be the Primary First Aider.


You will ensure the efficient day-to-day operations in the school office, as well as acting as the school’s Primary First Aider. As a member of the administrative team, you will also provide routine general administrative assistance as required.


You will have previous experience in administration and possibly in first aid, preferably within a school. You will be flexible and able to work as part of a team.


Responsibilities will include:


School Office:

  • Be the first point of contact for the school in person, by email and on the telephone.
  • Receive visitors and ensure they are well briefed in essential matters
  • Deal with enquiries, parent emails and queries
  • Receive post and deliveries
  • Liaise with external agencies as required
  • Deal with middle of day pupil arrivals and departures, escorting children between buildings
  • Occasionally supervise children in the front office in the event of a late pick up by parents
  • Manage daily pupil register, ensuring all class registers are complete and following up on queries


First Aid:

  • Greet children who are feeling ill or have sustained an injury
  • Assess them and administer basic first aid, as appropriate
  • Contact parents and staff as necessary to report a treatment or a need to go home
  • Contact emergency services on the rare occasion they are needed
  • Log all medical treatments
  • Maintain an accurate central record of children with medical conditions and allergies which is shared with staff
  • Order additional first aid supplies as needed


Role Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at Grade C or above
  • Previous administration experience
  • Good ICT skills with an understanding of MS Office
  • A good command of the English language, and good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and tact, particularly when dealing with parents
  • A flexible approach, with the ability to respond positively to ad hoc requests from all members of staff
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work calmly and reliably in a busy school, both in a team and independently
  • To undertake all training as required, although first aid experience and/or qualifications would be ideal
  • To instil attitudes and habits consistent with maintaining a happy and caring atmosphere within the whole school community
  • To be flexible, organised and able to prioritise, multi-task and work under pressure and to deadlines
  • To be proactive, motivated and calm
  • To have a professional, smart appearance


Term time only (many holidays all year!)


Salary £25-£30k


Hours: either 7.30-4pm or 8-4.30pm


The role will start in September with a few days handover in July ideally.
